The 500 Paintings and Studies Seasons, series and cycles are Paul Badie's compasses; experimentation without fear is his path. In ceramics, each cycle carried with it the discovery from the previous. In each kiln he planted an experiment, pushed the material and form past its limits. He was rewarded with a discovery, a new beginning for the next cycle. He approaches his painting in much the same way. His creative year begins with studies, then paintings that are pushed to their limit, giving him the transition point for the next cycle. Since 2008, he has worked through four such cycles. In the 2011 cycle he completed over 615 paintings and studies - 415 are shown here now. Series within series, anima, color explosions and in the end a return to the pigments of the masters - terra cotta, raw sienna, burnt umber. The final set of this cycle – sienna showers – will be introduced soon. Paul’s homage to a young Rembrandt, if he were painting today. |
